What to expect at your first visit

When you arrive for your appointment, you will be greeted at our front desk by one of our administrative staff members who will review your patient paperwork as well as ask for your insurance card and driver's license to make copies of.  You will then meet a member of our medical staff who will take you to an exam room and gather some additional information about your visit.  The doctor will then discuss your medical history, perform any testing that might be needed (allergy testing, pulmonary function testing, etc.).  The test results performed at the office the day of your visit will be reviewed with you and then a plan of action will be customized to best treat your condition.

With a typical new patient appointment, you can expect to be in the office anywhere from 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours.  If any specialized testing is being done (drug testing, stinging insect or oral challenges) expect to be in the office for a little longer.

Additional information for the visit

allergy testing

Please read carefully the Patient Instruction/Consent form for Allergy Skin Testing.  This will go over specifically what is involved with the skin testing and which medications that you or your child will need to stop 1 week prior to your scheduled appointment.  If you are currently taking an antihistamine (Allegra, Benadryl, Claritin, Zyrtec, or others), you will need to stop that medication at least 7 days prior to your appointment date, otherwise testing may not be able to be performed that day.

labs

If you or your child has had any labs, skin testing, CT Scans, or any other additional information that would be helpful to the visit, please bring that information to the appointment or have the referring physician fax the information to our office.

medications

It is extremely helpful if you bring a list of all currently prescribed allergy, asthma and/or eczema medications to the appointment, as well as any other medications that you or your child are taking.

payment

The patient will be responsible at the time of visit for any co-pay, deductible and/or co-insurance that is due.  A member of our billing staff should go over this information prior to you coming in for your appointment.  If you should have any questions, please do not hesitate to give our office a call.  We would be happy to go over your allergy benefits with you.

referrals

If your insurance company or plan requires you to have a referral to see a specialist, please make sure that you obtain the referral from your primary care physician before your appointment. If we do not have your referral before you are seen, you may be held responsible for payment at the time of the visit.
